What If I watch TV away from home?
Please enter in your diary only the TV viewing that occurs in your home. Our ratings system is based on "in home" TV viewing. When diary keepers enter viewing for any visitors, that accounts for any viewing in other homes. For this diary survey, we do not collect viewing done in public places.
Should I watch a variety of TV programs during the diary
keeping week and enter them in the diary?
No. Please do not change your regular TV viewing habits while filling
in the diary. This survey should accurately reflect what you and/or other
household members actually viewed during the survey week. Watch television
as you normally would. If you watch "special" presentations,
then enter the name of the special in the diary.
I watched Olympics during the diary week instead of
my regular programs. What should I write in the diary?
Write in the diary the programs actually viewed. If you watch the
Olympics, then enter that in the diary. In the comment section at the
end of the diary, you may tell us about the TV programs you usually watch.
I prefer to watch one TV channel. Should I make an effort
to watch other channels during the diary week?
You should not change your regular TV viewing habits. Watch television
as you normally would. Write in the diary only what you actually watch
during the diary week.
Switching Channels Frequently
While the commercials are on, or between shows, I switch
channels frequently. How should I enter that in the diary?
If your TV is tuned to any station or channel at least five minutes,
enter the channel name, number, the name of program
or movie, and indicate who was watching or listening. Make a note in the
diary to indicate you were "switching" channels.
What do I do when I only watched a channel for a few
minutes?
If you watched a program for at least five minutes, please enter the
channel name, number, the name of program or movie,
and the persons watching.

TV Outdoors
If I watch TV outdoors (in my yard or in the patio)
on a portable TV, do I enter that TV viewing in my diary?
Yes. As long as the TV viewing is at your place of residence, enter
it in the diary.
